Split Day 2 of USA Canada Cup
In their first game of the day, the K-W Rangers eked out a tight one over Pursuit of Excellence.
Rangers opened scoring late in the first period, on a goal by Megan Fergusson, assisted by Morgan Rolph and Paige Cohoon. A few minutes later, they added a second when Kelsey Dixon found the back of the next, assisted by Megan Johnson and Morgan Rolph (her second point). POE responded with the next three goals – one late in the second and two, one on a power play, in the first three minutes of the third to take a 3-2 lead. K-W came back, however, scoring two of their own later in the third. Jocelyn Ballantyne netted the first, assisted by Morgan Rolph (her third point of the game). Then, in the dying minutes Lexi Templeman found the back of the net on a feed from Katelyn Magoffin to seal the 4-3 win by the Rangers.
Rangers ended on the wrong side of a second evenly matched game on Saturday afternoon. Even though narrowly outshooting their opponents, 24 - 20, and with another strong showing in net for Mikayla Schnarr, Rangers were downed 1-0 by OHA Team Tardiff.
Despite the loss, Rangers ended round robin play with an excellent 3-1 record earning them second place in the tournament on the Canadian side. They move on to face Limloilou in the Bronze Medal game on Kinsmen arena at 9:30 AM Sunday.
